Servicer C

Under direction, the Servicer C will clean the interior and exterior of buses. Incumbents perform a variety of routine job duties involving the cleaning of transit vehicles; perform other vehicle service maintenance duties as required. Complete a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks requiring incumbent(s) to exercise good judgement in the field; perform duties within the limits of established policies, procedures and guidelines and maintain professionalism while working with others contacted in the course and scope of work.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
This is a journey-level classification requiring the successful performance of the majority of assigned job tasks independently and consistent with established work standards and District protocols. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
This classification reports to the Director of Maintenance, Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisors. This classification does not supervise.

The functions and duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if the work is related. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.

  • Clean interior and exterior of buses
  • Vacuum buses and cars
  • Remove gum and debris from floor
  • Clean seats with an upholstery machine
  • Clean restrooms and mop floors
  • Clean Maintenance building
  • Pull cash boxes
  • Assist in seat repair
  • Report to work as scheduled and work scheduled shifts as assigned
  • Must be willing to meet the needs of the District in a 24/7/365 environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities is as follows: EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR

EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school or the equivalent (GED) and the equivalent of two (2) years' experience servicing buses. LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • Possess a valid Class "C" California Driver's License with driving record acceptable to the District
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a certificate to operate a forklift

REQUISITE ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL LEVELS:

  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and tools used in bus cleaning.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment of the trade
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work cooperatively with those contacted in the course and scope of work
  • Ability to perform simple, basic, non-mechanical bus repairs
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written safety regulations and practices
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work variable hours including, but not limited to, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to perform the essential physical duties of the position
  • Must be capable of driving a car
  • Ability to complete manual dexterity-based duties.
  • Capacity to operate all necessary cleaning tools and supplies;

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL TASKS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Exposure to extreme heat, 100°+, for up to 10 hours duration when performing repair work in summer weather. (District requires that employees wear appropriate light clothing and drink liquids to prevent dehydration). (O)
Exposure to extreme temperature swings, 70°-110°, for up to 4 hours duration, when leaving air-conditioned office to work outside in summer heat. (District advises that employees drink liquids to prevent dehydration). (O)
Exposure to extreme noise, up to 90 decibels, when using steam cleaning equipment, blowers and etc. (District requires that employees wear protective ear devices and obey all safety rules). (F) Work outdoors to perform cleaning duties on shelters, benches, bus terminals and etc. (F) Work indoors to clean offices. (O) Exposure to health hazards when cleaning public facilities and street furniture.

(District requires that employees use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing job duties.(F) (F) = Frequent (O) = Occasional (S) = Seldom Exposure to explosions when fueling equipment. Risk involves the possibility of being burned. (District requires proper ventilation to dispenser fumes and strict adherence to all safety rules). (S) Exposure to fumes, unpleasant odors, and potentially health hazards when using cleaning chemicals.
