Position Description General Summary

A Crew Lead/ Person Leading Work (PLW) oversees the production and safety of a group of employees which may include but not limited to a Welder, Welder’s Helper, Crane Operator and Swamper.

Essential Job Functions
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Prepared and on time for scheduled shift with proper PPE.
  • Responsible for Daily Shift validations.
  • Must possess a current and valid Driver License with clean driving record.
  • Perform and fill out Pre-Trip vehicle inspection before leaving the yard which includes knowing how to use the wench and PTO on A-frame and check all fluids/tires/lights and all signs as listed on Pre-Trip.
  • Gather appropriate job permits from all crew members for each scheduled job and ensure that they have the correct information.
  • Follow and/or complete the Detailed Daily Work Plan (DDWP) and ensure crew actively participates, knows and follows each procedure.
  • Ensure the crew has the appropriate equipment, tools and supplies to complete the assigned task and have knowledge of all equipment.
  • Perform monthly tool audit of all crew members and ensure compliance of equipment (vehicle registration/ fire extinguisher).
  • Be able to detect welding issues ahead of time to properly guide crew on corrections when needed.
  • Must complete specific KSI PLW Training, Site Specific Training and Lifeguard Training.
  • Perform Testing on sites and test the job site for immediate respiratory dangers and know how to read a monitor.
  • Understand and know the procedures to bolt-up and torquing in the field.
  • Be aware of the dangers associated with hazardous atmospheres and hazards associated with using tools and equipment. Perform a job walk to identify all potential hazards around working area and take procedural actions to mitigate or eliminate if any found.
  • Coach and mentor fellow crew members and actively involve the Behavioral Safety Process, observer/coach/Steering Team Rep and provide team building skills.
  • Develop a general knowledge of KSI PPM-SOPs and frequently refer to the SOP Manual.
  • Follow all KS Industries, LP safety, and customer policies and procedures.
  • Shall perform all physical and mental requirements listed.
  • Position Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Ability to read and write in English
    • Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English
    • Ability to communicate with employees and various business partners in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Knowledge of Lock Out/ Tag Out process
    • Knowledge of technology (iPads, cellphones etc.)
    • Ability to complete task like Evacuating, Trenching, Line Finding, Dig Alerts, and Energy Control
    • Knowledge of Stop Work Authority (SWA)
    • Ability to complete training for Behavioral Safety Process
    • Ability to read a tape measure
    • Ability to recognize and use hand and power tools including pipe benders
    • Ability to demonstrate basic construction safety rules
    • Ability to work in confined spaces for long periods at a time
    • Knowledge of pipe sizes and fitting as well as thickness of material required
    Education and Experience

    Have 1-2 years of industry experience along with knowledge of tools.

    Physical & Mental Requirements
    • Must be able to lift, grasp up to 50 lbs. with the use of fingers, palm and wrists to hold and/or manipulate objects (hammers, saws, pencils, pens etc.) Must be able to raise and lower objects from one level to another.
    • Must be able to twist, squat, kneel and bend in various positions with or without objects.
    • Must be able to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force.
    • Must be able to carry and provide support to objects, usually holding it in hands, arms and/or on the shoulders.
    • Must be able to work in a supine, seated or standing position.
    Working Conditions

    The locations vary from site to site. Work is physically demanding and requires the ability to concentrate well on the job at hand, in all types of weather. Majority of the work is construction-based work. Walking and working surface vary depending on the terrain, from flat to extreme slopes and frozen, wet, snowy and slippery conditions.
