Custodian Job Description Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Custodian to maintain cleanliness and safety across assigned areas of a facility. This is a hands‑on role in a collaborative environment where your attention to detail and workethicmake a direct impact every day.

• Clean and maintain assigned areas including classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, stairwells, and common areas using standard cleaning procedures
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and polish a variety of floor surfaces, furniture, and fixtures
• Empty trash and recycling containers; replace liners and dispose of waste properly
• Clean and sanitize restrooms including toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, and floors; restock supplies as needed
• Clean walls, windows, blinds, doors, and ceilings;mayuse ladders or scaffolding to access higher areas
• Follow specific cleaning protocols and apply disinfectants and sanitizing agents as directed
• Operate basic cleaning equipment including vacuums, mops, and related tools
• Report maintenance issues such as leaks, broken fixtures, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor
• Secure and maintain cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring proper use and storage
• Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols at all times
• Assist with snow and ice removal around building entrances as needed

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions effectively
• Basic reading skills to understand labels, safety instructions, and schedules
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision
• Strong interpersonal skills; able to interact respectfully with faculty, staff, students, and visitors
• Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 20lbs
• Physically able to perform repetitive tasks, stand for extended periods, and work in varied environments
