Maintenance Helper
The Maintenance Helper performs routine facility maintenance in a commercial hospital setting, supporting the safe and reliable operation of building systems and equipment. In this role, you handle basic electrical, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and general building maintenance tasks under general supervision, while assisting skilled trades personnel with more complex repairs. You help ensure that interior spaces, fixtures, and infrastructure remain functional, clean, and in good working condition to support daily operations.
This is an overnight shift from 11pm-7:30am.
- Perform routine facility maintenance tasks, including replacing and servicing interior lighting systems, changing lamps, and working with related electrical components.
- Clean, install, and replace fixture covers, panels, and ceiling materials to maintain a safe and presentable environment.
- Conduct minor repairs and upkeep of building features such as safety railings, privacy curtain systems, and workplace furnishings.
- Install and replace restroom and common-area dispensers and fixtures as needed to support daily facility operations.
- Assist with the movement, setup, and relocation of equipment and furniture throughout the facility.
- Inspect, maintain, and organize maintenance tools and equipment to ensure they remain in safe, reliable working condition.
- Support skilled trades personnel with repairs and maintenance of facility infrastructure and operational systems, including basic HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical tasks.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools to complete maintenance assignments safely and efficiently under general supervision.
- Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely manner, helping to keep buildings and equipment safe, functional, and in good working condition.
- Perform general building maintenance, including basic troubleshooting, repair, painting, and preventive maintenance activities as directed.
- At least 1 year of work experience in facility, building, or general maintenance.
- Successful completion of 1 year (or current enrollment in) a state-approved Journey HVAC program at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Hands-on experience with facility maintenance tasks in a commercial building environment.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC systems and their components, gained through formal training or structured program participation.
- Ability to perform basic electrical maintenance, including working safely with lighting systems and related components under supervision.
- Fundamental plumbing skills for minor repairs and fixture installations.
- Experience with general building maintenance, including troubleshooting and basic repair work.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Capability to assist with painting, preventive maintenance, and general upkeep tasks.
- Strong attention to safety when working in an active hospital facility.
- Ability to follow instructions, work under general supervision, and support skilled trades personnel.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a commercial building or healthcare facility environment.
- Familiarity with hospital infrastructure and operational systems.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for working with building systems and equipment.
- Comfort performing preventive maintenance tasks and documenting work as required.
- Ability to move and handle equipment and furniture safely as part of daily duties.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting mindset for maintenance issues.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with maintenance team members and building staff.
- Reliability in working an overnight shift schedule.
