A Traffic Electronics Maintenance Technician I installs, maintains and repairs basic traffic electronic control equipment. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work rotating shift work and are subject to call-back. Work is performed in an electronics shop and outdoors where there is occasional exposure to inclement weather and traffic hazards.
Work requires moderate physical exertion in bending and reaching for equipment.
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
Experience: Have two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical or electronic equipment.
OR
Equivalency Notes: Completion of two years at an accredited college or university in digital electronics, computer science or a related field. Possession of a General Radio-telephone license issued by the Federal Communications Commission may be substituted for one year of the experience requirement.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.
PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
NOTE:

- Knowledge of electrical maintenance and repair techniques.
- Ability to use oscilloscopes, voltmeters and related testing equipment.
- Ability to calibrate test equipment.
- Ability to solder circuit boards.
- Ability to deal effectively with others.
- Ability to maintain records.
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
ProbationAll persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-months.
EligibilityQualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education AccreditationApplicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained es.org.
