R 2nd Shift Custodian - Barnstable Public Schools

Custodian Position

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within the building. This position involves performing various cleaning and maintenance tasks, supporting custodial operations, and ensuring the facilities are well-kept. This position reports to the Foreman, Head Custodian, and Custodial Supervisor.

Qualifications include:

• Basic knowledge of industrial cleaning methods and safety practices.
• Familiarity with custodial equipment and supplies.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Good interpersonal skills for maintaining positive relationships with staff and students.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, push, pull, climb, and balance.
• Ability to frequently walk, bend, kneel, and use fine motor skills for detailed cleaning.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, with some exposure to noise and equipment hazards.

Performance responsibilities include:

• Clean and disinfect classrooms, restrooms, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and remove trash from assigned areas.
• Maintain restrooms in a sanitary condition and restock supplies as needed.

• Assist in operating and maintaining HVAC, life safety, and lighting systems.
• Report any maintenance issues to the Head Custodian.
• Help with minor repairs and routine maintenance on equipment and furniture.

• Ensure the security of the building by locking and unlocking doors as assigned.
• Assist with snow removal and setup/takedown for school activities as required.

• Work collaboratively with the custodial team to ensure cleanliness and efficiency.
• Participate in training sessions to enhance knowledge of cleaning methods and safety protocols.

• Provide emergency cleanup services as needed.
• Be available to respond to custodial needs during assigned shifts.

The role involves both indoor and outdoor work, with responsibilities during regular school hours and possibly during events.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff.
• Promote a positive image of the District.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian or Supervisor.
