The Building Maintenance Laborer performs routine maintenance, cleaning, minor repairs, and general labor tasks to support the safe, functional, and presentable condition of buildings and surrounding areas. This position supports facilities operations by completing assigned work orders, assisting skilled trades, and responding to maintenance needs while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities (And Other Duties As Assigned)

  • Perform general building maintenance tasks, including cleaning, painting, patching, and basic repairs.
  • Assist with routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment; report issues or hazards to supervisor.
  • Support skilled trades (maintenance technicians, electricians, plumbers, carpenters) with basic labor tasks.
  • Perform janitorial duties in common areas, offices, restrooms, and work spaces as needed.
  • Move furniture, equipment, and materials; assist with set-ups for meetings or events.
  • Maintain exterior areas, including snow removal, debris cleanup, and light grounds maintenance.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and hazard reporting.
  • Respond to work orders and maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Apply ice melt or sand as needed to reduce slip hazards.
  • Respond to snow removal needs during non-standard hours (early mornings, evenings, weekends) as required.
  • Assist during inclement weather or emergency response situations as directed.
  • Travel to job site location, pick up materials, or support off-site events, as needed.

    Education And/Or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in cold, snowy, or icy conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver snow removal equipment and materials (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Ability to work overtime, evenings, weekends, or on-call work.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft products, including Excel and Word at a basic level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture.
