Traditional Room Custodian

Job Title

Maintain and coordinate the use of the Traditional Room of the Inupiat Heritage Center and assist with exhibit and program workshop needs.

Assist in any exhibit and education program needs such as mount making and equipment building.

Keep ramps and doorways clean.

Operate and maintain equipment and machinery used in the Traditional room.

Order and store supplies and equipment.

Maintain facilities in a safe, clean, sanitary manner in accordance with OSHA Regulations by performing janitorial duties including dusting, cleaning, waxing and/or polishing of facilities, equipment and furnishings.

Act as liaison between patrons of the Traditional room and the Museum Curator.

Each year assist local whaling captains and crews in the preparation of the traditional room for skin boat sewing.

Assist Inupiat Heritage Center in the preparation of the Elders/Youth Conferences.

Knowledge of power tools and industrial workshop equipment.

Knowledge of traditional & contemporary customs and activities of the North Slope.

Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a wide variety of persons.

High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.

Ability to obtain a Bloodborne Pathogens Certificate within six months of employment.

Ability to obtain OSHA Health and Safety training within six months of employment.
