SummaryThe Buyer is responsible for procuring materials, components, and services essential for the timely and cost-effective manufacturing of industrial automation products. Working closely with suppliers, internal teams, and the Materials & Purchasing department, this role ensures materials meet quality standards, are delivered on schedule, and align with project and budget requirements.
Responsibilities- Be an ideal team player: collaborate humbly, maintain high motivation, use emotional intelligence and common sense.
- Procure and manage materials efficiently: source, negotiate, and purchase materials from approved suppliers; use market research for sourcing decisions; work with engineering on quality; monitor inventory; create and maintain item setups in Epicor; manage open orders; coordinate product replacements and recalls; assist in excess/obsolete inventory reviews; support transition to a lean inventory environment.
- Ensure supplier performance and relationship management: follow up on lead times; evaluate supplier performance; identify cost‑saving opportunities; resolve issues related to requisition accuracy, delivery, payments, and invoice rectification.
- Collaborate across departments: work with engineering, production, and project teams on material requirements; communicate when lead times not met or orders are wrong; coordinate engineering changes; participate in multi‑functional meetings; support continuous learning and EOS quarterly activities.
- Maintain compliance and operational excellence: ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- High proficiency with ERP systems, especially Epicor, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Analytical and detail‑oriented mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to handle multiple purchase orders and vendors simultaneously.
- Understanding of sourcing, supply strategies, material requirement planning, and inventory control techniques.
- Knowledge of procurement best practices and supply chain principles.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills for handling supply issues or material substitutions.
- Experience working from Bills of Materials in an Engineer‑To‑Order environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and cost optimization.
- Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across departments and suppliers.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
- 3+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in an ETO manufacturing environment with high mix‑low volume components.
- Experience with ERP or MRP systems such as Epicor, Net Suite, SAP, or similar.
- Familiarity with industrial automation components or technical products is a plus.
- Certification such as CPSM or CSCP is a plus, but not required.
