Performs a wide range of manual duties associated with cutting grass, trimming, and clearing weeds and brush. Must be able to operate weed-eaters, edgers, and backpack blowers at various locations throughout the city. Collecting loose leaves during leaf season. Extensive walking is required while picking up litter and cutting grass.
Essential Job Functions:
Assist the Grounds Maintenance Division in cutting grass and picking up litter
Assist the Solid Waste Division in collecting loose leaves during leaf season.
Use various hand tools to dig, sweep, and spread materials
Load and unload materials, supplies, tools, and equipment daily
Extensive walking is required to pick up litter.
Other duties as assigned by the Crew Leader, Field Supervisor, Manager of Grounds Maintenance, and the Director or Assistant Director of Public Works.
Cleans and maintains tools, equipment, materials, and work area.
RequirementsWork Schedule:
Normal hours:7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break
Summertime Hours are May through October: 6:30 AM- 3:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch break
Overtime is occasionally required
Some Saturdays and Holidays are required during Loose Leaf Season (November 1st through March 31st)
Physical Requirements- Ability to perform sustained physical labor in outdoor conditions exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, and inclement weather.
- Ability to lift and carryup to 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work in varying weather conditions.
- Physically able to perform unskilled manual labor.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under close supervision.
- Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as required (Solid Waste and Storm Water).
- Ability to safely use basic hand tools and equipment.
- Reliable attendance and availability for full workdays.
- Bartlett, Tennessee is adrug-free workplace.
- All contract laborers must pass:
- Background check
- Random drug testing is required at leastonce annually for long-term assignments (6+ consecutive months).
- Any worker suspected of impairment or posing a safety risk will be removed from assignment until verified substance-free.
- Compliance with all safety and workforce policies is mandatory.
Works outside exposed to extreme weather conditions and inclement weather. Frequently exposed to dust, dampness, rain, snow, etc. Subject to hazards of construction work, equipment, and working around traffic. Subject to excessive noise from equipment. Subject to heavy lifting, as much as 50lbs., four feet from the ground. Subject to excessive reaching, pulling, pushing, and feeling. Requires the ability to ascend and descend ladders, structures, and equipment.
Requires bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. Requires sitting or standing for long periods of time and extensive walking. Must wear all safety equipment and follow all safety regulations.
