Maintenance Specialist

Job Summary The Maintenance Worker responsible for ensuring that all facilities, grounds, and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean, and operational condition. The role supports compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, state licensing requirements, health and safety regulations, and Cen-Tex Family Services, Inc. policies. The Maintenance Worker plays a key role in creating a safe and welcoming learning environment for children, families, and staff.

Preventive Maintenance & Equipment Care Check HVAC systems, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, and alarms regularly.

Lubricate and inspect mechanical systems as scheduled.

Maintain logs for service calls and completed work.

Inspect and test electrical panels and outlets.

Identify and recommend equipment upgrades or replacements.

Follows a preventive maintenance schedule.

Maintains tools and equipment in good working order.

Logs maintenance tasks and updates service records.

Monitors equipment performance to prevent breakdowns.

Communicates with supervisors about potential facility issues.

Cleanliness & Sanitation Support Supports custodial and sanitation duties to ensure a clean, healthy environment

Assist with cleaning restrooms, kitchens, and classrooms as needed.

Collect and dispose of trash, recycling, and biohazards properly.

Support playground and outdoor area cleaning and upkeep.

Use PPE and approved sanitizing agents for disinfection.

Restock custodial supplies and report inventory needs.

Assists with deep cleaning, disinfecting, and waste removal.

Uses appropriate cleaning products and tools per safety guidelines.

Understands requirements for child care sanitation and hygiene.

Follows cleaning schedules during and after operating hours.

Reports any concerns related to hygiene or sanitation

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation Adheres to health, safety, and facility-related regulatory requirements.

Document fire drills, safety inspections, and repairs.

Ensure facility is accessible and compliant with ADA requirements.

Support emergency evacuation plan readiness.

Maintain MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for chemicals used.

Coordinate with vendors or contractors when necessary.

Maintains awareness of Head Start and licensing facility standards.

Completes documentation of inspections and repairs.

Prepares the facility for state and federal monitoring visits.

Reports any unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately.

Keeps facilities in compliance with OSHA and ADA guidelines..Communication & Team Collaboration Works collaboratively with staff to support a safe and functional environment.

Respond to maintenance tickets submitted by staff.

Provide updates on work order status.

Coordinate room readiness before events or classroom setup.

Communicate utility disruptions or construction needs.

Assist with facility needs for family or community events..Communicates clearly with supervisors and center staff.

Responds respectfully to maintenance requests.

Keeps team informed of completed and pending tasks.

Offers support during emergency situations or drills.

Participates in staff meetings when needed.

Adaptability & Dependability Remains flexible and dependable in handling a variety of tasks and priorities

Prioritize work based on urgency and  available for occasional evening/weekend repairs or emergencies.
