MAINTENANCE REPAIRER 1-2/ WADDILL REFUGE
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology.
This position is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the 250-acre Waddill Refuge and all facilities under the supervision of the Office of Wildlife. Duties include maintaining the rifle, shotgun, and archery ranges, as well as refuge ponds and other grounds. Because the refuge is a high-use public recreation area, this position plays a critical role in ensuring the property, facilities, and amenities are safe, functional, and well maintained for public use.
One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Job Duties:Buildings and grounds maintenance
- General repairs, i.e. power washing, painting, etc.
- General upkeep of grounds of complex i.e. mow, trim, edging and landscaping.
- Maintain trails, boardwalks, ponds and other access features.
- Repair limestone roads using tractors or other heavy equipment.
- Maintain and performs minor repairs to HVAC in all facilities.
- Maintains and performs minor repairs to plumbing in all facilities and grounds.
- Perform boundary line demarcations as needed and posting of entrance signs.
- Handling of work orders/requests by hunter education staff for facility-related items.
- Assist with maintenance at other facilities as requested by supervisor.
- Responsible for safety related tasks for building/site compliance, including but not limited to building inspections, preventive maintenance compliance, hazard mitigation, and upkeep of first aid and spill kits on the property.
- Maintains grounds adjacent to ranges.
- Maintains air rifle range, archery range, and shotgun range to ensure safe use by the public.
- Repairs and replaces targets on shooting and archery ranges.
- Maintains and repairs clay target throwers.
- Maintains shooting tables and covers.
- Collects brass from ranges and disposes accordingly.
This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as a MAINTENANCE REPAIRER 1-2. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series.
This position may be filled as:
- Probational appointment
- Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees)
Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected.
This position is located in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Work Schedule is 7:00 am-3:30 pm with overtime as necessary. A valid LA drivers license is required.
