The Maintenance Planner plays a key role in ensuring the effective planning and scheduling of maintenance activities to optimize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and maximize asset performance. They are responsible for developing maintenance plans, scheduling work orders, and coordinating resources to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks. This individual will act as a key liaison between Production Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to ensure value added, critical sustaining work is done with a high degree of efficacy and professionalism.
This role will report to the Maintenance Services Manager.
Work Order Management:
- Review maintenance notifications in SAP and convert them into work orders.
- Ensure work orders contain accurate scope, priority, and required resources.
- Create and prioritize work orders for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Review work orders to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with maintenance plans and schedules.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to assign tasks, provide necessary instructions, and clarify requirements.
Planning & Scheduling:
- Develop detailed job plans including labor, materials, tools, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to schedule work efficiently with minimal down time.
- Maintain a rolling forecast of planned work to optimize resource utilization.
- Collaborate with maintenance managers, engineers, and technicians to develop comprehensive maintenance plans based on equipment requirements, manufacturer recommendations, and operational needs.
- Review equipment histories, maintenance records, and performance data to identify recurring issues and develop proactive maintenance strategies.
- Determine the scope of maintenance work, including required resources, materials, and tools.
- Develop and maintain a maintenance schedule to optimize resource utilization and minimize equipment downtime.
- Coordinate with production and operations teams to schedule maintenance activities during planned downtime periods to minimize production disruptions.
- Communicate maintenance schedules and updates to relevant stakeholders to ensure awareness and alignment.
- Associate’s degree + 3 years’ maintenance planning experience OR GED/HS Diploma + 5 years’ maintenance planning experience.
- Direct experience in a chemical/petrochemical manufacturing setting required.
- Strong skills in work order execution, job scoping, and onsite safety inspections highly preferred.
- Proficiency in SAP PM, S/4
Hana, CMMS systems and scheduling software (Prometheus, P6 or other). - Previous experience with ERP/MRP Systems is a plus.
- A working understanding of large, manufacturing equipment (rotating equipment, heaters, exchangers, tanks, thermal oxidizers, etc.) including the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation aspects of such equipment.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance best practices, reliability principles, and asset management concepts.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (PID’s, PFD’s) and equipment manuals.
- Ability to breakdown large scopes into technical documentation, and processes is desired.
- Experience facilitating team meetings and coordination efforts to ensure coherence and adherence to the project’s strategic direction.
- Ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations and standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Must have a strong command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Familiarity with PSM/OSHA guidelines.
- Familiarity with Mechanical Integrity as part of OSHA PSM.
- Certification in Maintenance Planning and Scheduling (e.g., Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional - CMRP) (preferred).
- Training or certification in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) (preferred).
