Position: Custodian

Reports to: Supervisor of Facilities & Grounds

Employment Status: Beachwood Union of Support Staff (BUSS) Contract

• To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean place in which to learn and develop.

• High school education or equivalent.
• One year of cleaner or custodial work experience or completion of custodial training program preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic techniques of electrical repair, maintenance, carpentry, and plumbing.
• Knowledge of school district safety measures and acceptable cleaning practices.
• Meet all health requirements mandated by law.
• Satisfactory completion of BCII and FBI background checks.
• Possession of a valid motor vehicle license.

• Ensure exterior doors are locked and unlocked daily at appropriate times.
• Assist in coordinating emergency procedures.
• Coordinate, set up, and clean up scheduled meetings or events.
• Maintain and clean assigned areas, including but not limited to:
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms.
  • Clean and sanitize classrooms.
  • Sweep and dust assigned areas and dispose of trash.
  • Clean interior and exterior glass and maintain hallways.
• Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat, clean, and salted (ice-free) in season, along with landscaping beds free of weeds.
• Strip and wax floors when needed.
• Make minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and maintenance repairs as needed, and report those that cannot be repaired to the maintenance staff.
• Maintain all housekeeping equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, carpet extractor, etc.) and clean after each use.
• Replace ceiling tiles as needed.
• Buff floors with burnisher.
• Replace light bulbs as required.
• Snow removal via snowblower.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of light maintenance, custodial, and cleaning.
• Ability to use industrial cleaning materials and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to interact positively with staff, students, parents/guardians, and the public.
• Ability to promote good public relations.
• Ability to perform sustained physical labor in both heat and cold.
• Ability to work around standard cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to monitor activities throughout the building.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
• Ability to maintain a high energy level throughout the day.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends.

• The employee shall exercise honesty and integrity in relationships with the Board of Education and administration.
• The employee shall promote a positive image of the District through exemplary personal conduct.
• The employee shall report misconduct or violations of policy or procedure following established Board policy.
• The employee shall actively support efforts of the Board of Education and the Superintendent in pursuing District goals and interests.
• The employee shall not disrupt District operations or undermine positions of the Board of Education and administration.
• The employee shall demonstrate the ability to interact positively with staff, students, and the public and promote a positive image of the district, including effective communication, listening skills, and abstinence from alcohol or controlled substances.

• Ability to hear, speak, read, write, sit and/or stand for extended periods, use hands for computer operation, kneel, bend, reach overhead, and lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 80 pounds.

Full-Time

$21.75 to $29.25 Per Hour
