REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
FLSA STATUS: Hourly Non-Exempt; 12 month
Position Overview: The Facilities & Grounds Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and grounds work to ensure the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of both interior spaces in campus buildings and outdoor areas.
The ideal candidate is highly dependable, proactive and possesses the flexibility to pivot between interior repairs and outdoor operational support as needed. This person should also bring hands-on experience across multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, and general building maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on campus buildings, interior systems, classrooms, offices, and common spaces.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
- Assemble, install, repair and maintain building components such as doors, locks, hardware, ceilings, walls, flooring, furniture, and shelving.
- Perform minor carpentry, drywall, painting, and general construction repairs.
- Assist with HVAC, boiler, kitchen, cafeteria, and mechanical system maintenance.
- Maintain campus grounds, walkways, parking lots, courtyards, and exterior gathering spaces.
- Perform mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, mulching, pruning, and seasonal leaf or storm cleanup.
- Monitor irrigation systems and report maintenance concerns.
- Remove litter and maintain a clean, welcoming campus environment, including exterior furniture, signage, fencing, and amenities.
- Prepare athletic fields and outdoor spaces for practices, games, camps, and school events in coordination with the Athletic Department.
- Respond to maintenance work orders in a timely, proactive manner and maintain organized maintenance records.
- Order and maintain an organized inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
- Support campus events through setup, teardown, outdoor logistics, deliveries, and furniture moves.
- Coordinate daily activities with landscaping and grounds contractors, and report vendor performance concerns.
- Follow all safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, utilize required PPE, and operate grounds equipment safely.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards, campus concerns, and support emergency response or after-hours needs as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A proactive nature with a strong eye for detail; ability to spot and fix issues before they become larger problems.
- Highly dependable and flexible; willing to adapt to changing daily priorities, weather-dependent tasks, and occasional after-hours emergency response needs.
- Must have reliable transportation to ensure dependable attendance.
- Strong communication, active listening, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Must pass a clean background check.
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical training or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Proven experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, groundskeeping, or a related trade preferred.
- This position requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and the extensive use of hands and arms.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally team lift up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to safely push/pull heavy equipment and materials.
- Ability to work comfortably in varied indoor and outdoor environments (including extreme weather conditions like heat, cold, snow, and rain).
- Visual acuity (including depth perception and peripheral vision) and the ability to hear equipment operation and verbal instructions.
- Ability to maintain balance and coordination while operating machinery or working at heights.
- Ability to wear all required PPE (safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, etc.).
