Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and grounds work to ensure the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of both interior spaces in campus buildings and outdoor areas. The ideal candidate is a proactive, highly dependable problem-solver who can flexibly pivot between interior repairs and outdoor campus support. This person should bring a strong hands-on background in general facility maintenance—including basic troubleshooting in areas like plumbing, light electrical, carpentry, painting, and seasonal grounds support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on campus buildings, interior systems, classrooms, offices, and common spaces.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Assemble, install, repair and maintain building components such as doors, locks, hardware, ceilings, walls, flooring, furniture, and shelving.
  • Perform minor carpentry, drywall, painting, and general construction repairs.
  • Assist with HVAC, boiler, kitchen, cafeteria, and mechanical system maintenance.
  • Maintain campus grounds, walkways, parking lots, courtyards, and exterior gathering spaces.
  • Perform mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, mulching, pruning, and seasonal leaf or storm cleanup.
  • Monitor irrigation systems and report maintenance concerns.
  • Remove litter and maintain a clean, welcoming campus environment, including exterior furniture, signage, fencing, and amenities.
  • Prepare athletic fields and outdoor spaces for practices, games, camps, and school events in coordination with the Athletic Department.
  • Respond to maintenance work orders in a timely, proactive manner and maintain organized maintenance records.
  • Order and maintain an organized inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
  • Support campus events through setup, teardown, outdoor logistics, deliveries, and furniture moves.
  • Coordinate daily activities with landscaping and grounds contractors, and report vendor performance concerns.
  • Follow all safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, utilize required PPE, and operate grounds equipment safely.
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards, campus concerns, and support emergency response or after-hours needs as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • A proactive nature with a strong eye for detail; ability to spot and fix issues before they become larger problems.
  • Highly dependable and flexible; willing to adapt to changing daily priorities, weather-dependent tasks, and occasional after-hours emergency response needs.
  • Must have reliable transportation to ensure dependable attendance.
  • Strong communication, active listening, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must pass a clean background check.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical training or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, groundskeeping, or a related trade preferred.
  • HVAC experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • This position requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and the extensive use of hands and arms.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally team lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to safely push/pull heavy equipment and materials.
  • Ability to work comfortably in varied indoor and outdoor environments (including extreme weather conditions like heat, cold, snow, and rain).
  • Visual acuity (including depth perception and peripheral vision) and the ability to hear equipment operation and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to maintain balance and coordination while operating machinery or working at heights.
  • Ability to wear all required PPE (safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, etc.).
