Overview

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for the maintenance support for the plant, specializing in the mechanical capability. Primary job expertise is repairing, installing, adjusting, and maintenance of mechanical related equipment; performed safely, correctly, and efficiently following good work practices. These objectives will be achieved by working very closely with the operations and technical teams.

This role supports an overall team effort to develop and implement a Manufacturing Policy and Plan which includes budgets;
Health, Safety, Security & Environmental matters;
Organizational & Cultural development of the Manufacturing Organization; as well as other aspects of the company’s business. This role requires diverse knowledge and experience in maintenance techniques, maintenance execution, employee leadership, and project management oversight.

The position is accountable for providing input into our overall maintenance strategy that includes: long/short term objectives, mechanical integrity management interaction (PSM), predictive & preventive maintenance plans and strategies, input/guidance on budget & cost control, effective HSSE management, oversight of maintenance & contractor activities, spare parts recommendations, equipment data management, and leadership/mentorship to employees concerning maintenance best practice and equipment history.

  • Prepares and maintains record of all maintenance and service activities of the department.
  • Provides input on work prioritization of plant equipment repairs to meet site objectives and goals.
  • Evaluate Preventive/Predictive work orders for improvements that may increase equipment reliability.
  • Assist Reliability group with finding root cause on equipment failures.
  • Provide input from mechanical capability to optimize plant reliability, i.e., critical spare parts inventory, spare part upgrades, work priority, equipment health observations, craft training, specialty tools, etc.
  • Assist other departments and craft capabilities as needed to complete specific jobs with available resources.
  • Provide team input on the final check-out of new installations. This includes factory and site acceptance testing that will assure adherence to functional specifications.
  • Recognize and act on opportunities to ensure and/or improve safe, reliable and cost-efficient plant operations.
  • Provide mechanical expertise to equipment vendors and repair shops to resolve technical issues or complex equipment repairs.
  • Provide mechanical capability input on turnaround and maintenance strategies.
  • Support turnaround leadership to accomplish turnaround vision/goals.
  • Help develop contact list and relationships for turnaround contractors and repair facilities.
  • Safely perform and document maintenance and repair of electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Vet maintenance procedures focusing on best practice and completeness.
  • Utilize electronic document control systems to ensure current information is referenced.
  • Provide update information for files, logs and drawings for all designated instruments and electric equipment.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations

  • None required.

Education, Experience, and/or Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Degree in Industrial Mechanics Technology or other Industry Related Certification preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Mechanical craft required.
