Primary Responsibilities
- Directs maintenance personnel to ensure that all systems operate at their highest capability to meet required production schedules, quality, costs and schedule priorities.
- Provides maintenance training, including effective utilization of maintenance logs and SAP, and completion of routine maintenance specific to facility, equipment operations and support.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker‑hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
- Assists with the supervision of maintenance staff, including performance management and employee development.
- Ensures that equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe, operable condition and arranges for replacement or upgrades as needed.
- Establishes procedures and contacts to ensure timely repairs of equipment.
- Assists and directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and utility systems maintenance, and the repair of machinery and equipment, including diagnosing malfunctions.
- Assists with developing department employee relations by continuously communicating all information affecting employees.
- Improves reliability, maintenance, and processing methods to reduce costs and avoid loss of production due to equipment malfunction or failure time.
- Determines equipment capabilities, safety, and operational condition in coordination with other supervisors and technicians.
- Develops preventative maintenance procedures that are cost‑effective and increase the operational life of the equipment.
- Seeks and implements continuous improvement of the process through equipment improvement modifications.
- Assists in the development of the system and operational standards and corrective actions.
- Develops, implements and reviews site‑specific maintenance logs for the department.
- Coordinates, arranges, and supervises, or provides for the completion of corrective and preventive maintenance in accordance with company operating procedures, practices, and financial considerations.
- Analyzes production downtime reports, identifies opportunities, and initiates action plans to increase efficiency.
- Participates in the QRMP yearly audit and assists in the development of procedures and corrective actions.
- Oversees and leads the implementation of the QRMP (Quality Risk Management Process) system and operational standards to achieve targeted RCR.
- Is accountable for the Safety, Health and Environmental systems and operational standards to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and processes.
- Assists and partners with business leaders on the implementation of process improvement (Six Sigma / Lean / Kraft Heinz Global Production System) including leading change initiatives, planning, and facilitation.
- Assists with preparing requisitions to determine the number of spare parts to be kept in inventory.
- Assists in maintaining departmental operating budget at a positive variance by effectively utilizing the workforce and equipment.
- Conducts training of employees.
- Enforces safe work practices.
- Corrects unsafe conditions.
- Prevents lingering unsafe or unhealthful workplace conditions or hazards.
- Investigates workplace accidents.
- Promotes quick return to work.
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 1–5 years of related leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 3–5 years’ experience in manufacturing is required.
- Experience implementing and maintaining TPM systems is strongly preferred; an understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and utility systems—including ammonia refrigeration and boiler systems—is a plus.
- Knowledge of good manufacturing practices; safety and quality minded; capable of making sound decisions.
- Understanding of direct and overhead cost systems.
- Experience using, troubleshooting, and programming Allen Bradley PLCs is a plus.
- Must be able to work flexible schedules to include days, afternoons, midnights, and weekend work; must be able to bend, squat, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
