The Facilities & Grounds Worker supports the maintenance, repair, and overall upkeep of the Academy's campus, including buildings, landscaped areas, walkways, athletic fields, and related infrastructure. This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work in building maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial support, and general facility operations to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained campus environment. The role requires flexibility, physical stamina, attention to safety, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
EssentialFunctions
The Facilities & Grounds Worker is responsible for supporting daily facilities operations and maintaining campus buildings and grounds. Responsibilities essential to this function include:
Facilities Maintenance & Repairs- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and painting work
- Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns
- Complete work orders efficiently and report issues requiring specialized repair
- Assist with preventative maintenance tasks as assigned
- Replace light bulbs, filters, and other consumable items
- Maintain landscaped areas, walkways, parking lots, and campus green spaces
- Perform mowing, trimming, raking, planting, watering, and seasonal landscaping tasks
- Operate grounds equipment such as tractors, mowers, blowers, and utility vehicles
- Perform snow removal, salting, and ice management during winter months
- Support care and upkeep of athletic fields and outdoor facilities
- Assist custodial staff with cleaning and sanitizing campus spaces as needed
- Support room setups, furniture moves, event preparation, and campus deliveries
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively
- Follow established safety procedures and proper chemical handling practices
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or hazards promptly
- Maintain accurate records of work performed
- Assist contractors and vendors by providing access and basic support when assigned
- Respond to after-hours or emergency facility needs on a rotating or assigned basis
- Basic knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and grounds equipment safely
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong commitment to safety and campus standards
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors across all seasons
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, machinery noise, dust, and varying weather conditions
- Flexible schedule may include evenings, weekends, or on-call assignments
- Frequently required to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and work at various heights
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in varying environmental conditions
- Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential function of the position
Minimal travel required; work is primarily campus-based.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior facilities, maintenance, custodial, or grounds experience preferred
Education and Experience
Experience working in a campus, school, or institutional environment.
