Common Laborer - Parks & Forestry DivisionThe City of Beaver Dam is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to serve as a Common or Skilled Laborer. The Common Laborer is an entry-level position supporting maintenance and operations in City parks, public spaces, and related municipal facilities. This role provides a learning opportunity to gain hands‑on skills and participate in the broad range of park and forestry maintenance duties, assisting in keeping parks clean, safe, and welcoming for community members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs general park maintenance: sweeping, litter collection, cleaning shelters/playgrounds/restrooms, trash/refuse removal, restroom checks, and daily safety tasks.
- Assists with turf care, mowing, trimming, brush collection, and seasonal landscaping or flower bed displays.
- Supports minor repairs and facility upkeep assists with moving equipment/supplies, pavement restoration, concrete work, painting, maintenance tasks, and event set‑ups.
- Helps with debris removal—including storm cleanup, fallen trees, and organizing leaves/branches for collection or mulching.
- Operates and assists in the operation of heavy machinery as trained: end loaders, mowers, snow removal equipment, etc.
- Participates in seasonal tasks: snow removal, mulching, leaf cleanup, holiday prepping/decorating, and pool and playground support.
- Maintains/refuels department equipment and tools; assists with basic cleaning and preventative maintenance under supervision.
- Responds to park user needs and public inquiries in a friendly, supportive way.
- Provides quality‑of‑life services, helps keep parks, ball fields, and beaches clean, safe, and accessible for all.
- Works as part of a team, following daily assignments given by the Supervisor or Skilled/Semi‑Skilled Laborer, and provides support across Public Works or Utilities as needed.
- Reports hazards or emergencies and adheres to all safety rules, including safe handling of chemicals
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- General labor, pavement/building maintenance, or forestry‑related experience helpful but not required
Salary & Benefits:
- Hourly pay range is $23.75 to $30.66/hour based on experience and qualifications. This is a full‑time position that includes a comprehensive benefits package with a Wisconsin Retirement System plan, health, dental, vision, life insurance, income continuation insurance, PTO and other retirement plan options.
