Term of employment: Upon Board approval for the remainder of the school year. Thereafter, the term of employment shall be 261 days annually.

JOB DESCRIPTIONPursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8:
Custodian IV means a person employed as a head custodian. The head custodian means a person employed to keep buildings clean and free of refuse, to operate the heating or cooling systems, and to make minor repairs.
Sanitation plant operator" means a person employed to operate and maintain a water or sewage treatment plant to ensure the safety of the plant's effluent for human consumption or environmental protection;
The Custodian IV is responsible for maintaining school buildings, facilities, and grounds in a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly condition that supports student learning and school operations. The employee performs custodial duties, preventive maintenance, groundskeeping, minor repairs, and facility preparation activities while promoting a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS- High School Diploma, General Equivalent Development Certificate (GED) per West Virginia Code §18A-2-5.
- Personnel must be or have been classified in this category, or must pass the state prescribed exam for this position per West Virginia Code §18A-4-8e.
- Criminal background check per WV Code §18-5-15c.
- Possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain all licenses, certifications, and continuing education requirements necessary for the operation of public water treatment and wastewater treatment systems.
- Ability to respond to facility emergencies and perform required building inspections during school closures, inclement weather, and other non-student attendance days.
- The ability to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the Job Description.
- Serving as Head Custodian: Coordinates, assigns, and oversees custodial operations and may provide direction and assistance to other custodial personnel to ensure buildings and grounds are maintained in a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly condition.
- Maintaining Clean Facilities: Performs routine cleaning of classrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, locker rooms, gymnasiums, and other assigned areas to maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment.
- Maintaining Floors and Surfaces: Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, buffs, and polishes floors and other surfaces using appropriate equipment and materials.
- Maintaining Restrooms: Cleans, sanitizes, and restocks restroom facilities to ensure proper hygiene and adequate supplies.
- Managing Waste Disposal: Collects, removes, and properly disposes of trash, recyclables, and other waste materials.
- Inspecting Facilities: Conducts regular inspections of buildings, grounds, mechanical rooms, utility systems, and custodial work areas to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and operational deficiencies.
