Seasonal Laborer – Transfer Station

Pay Rate: $18.00 / Hourly

Summary: The Town of Bedford Department of Public Works is seeking energetic, dependable, and positive minded individual to fill the position of Seasonal Laborer – Transfer Station for our 2026 summer activities. This is an up to 40 hours / week position between May – August with normal work hours of Tues. – Sat. 0830 – 1700 hrs., or as assigned, for up to 12 weeks.

• Supports the operations of the Department of Public Works
• Assists with the daily operations and functions of the Landfill, Recycling, and Solid Waste Transfer Facilities.
• Operates compactors, small equipment, mowers, and performs manual tasks as assigned.
• Maintains site security by ensuring the public remains in designated areas and monitors the facility to prevent salvaging.
• Occasionally performs minor repairs / maintenance on equipment as needed.
• Maintains site area in a clean and orderly manner by performing such duties as raking of debris from banks, picking up litter, managing green waste disposal, recycling efforts, etc.
• Requires the projection of a positive attitude and image about the Town of Bedford, a pleasant demeanor and commitment to service the public.
• Performs other related duties as directed.

• Applicants should have a High School Diploma or equivalent, must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid NH Driver’s License, be able to obtain New Hampshire Solid Waste Operator Certificate (after employment) and be safety conscious.
• Must be able to obtain a DOT Medical Card.
• Knowledge of maintenance practices, ability to use hand‑held/operated equipment such as mowers, power brooms, leaf blowers, and power tools.
• Must have good communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
