Job Description
Building Maintenance Technician I (260000WU) – an entry‑level position that performs minor maintenance and service to support ongoing facility operations for the Facilities Department. Work is initiated through work requests or dispatched by the Engineering control room, call center, or management in accordance with hospital standards. The technician provides direct general labor support to all trades, procuring and picking up materials, executing low‑level installations, furniture assembly, troubleshooting, repairs, vent cleaning, and maintaining general building systems and structure.
Responsibilities also include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, plastering, snow removal, tank delivery and changing, landscape maintenance, and responding to emergencies such as leaks, fire alarms, odors, and other incidents.
- Take initiative to identify and report deficiencies in the physical plant by submitting work orders through the system.
- Diagnose and resolve trouble tickets/work orders thoroughly until completion.
- Follow up with managers and requesters to communicate status, request assistance, and ensure problems are corrected.
- Utilize all safety measures related to work orders and specific tasks.
- Represent the engineering staff in a professional and helpful manner, anticipating and responding to customer needs.
- Interview requestors and gather information to complete work.
- Assist in the preparation of project plans, budgets, and timelines.
- Ensure labor and activity compliance with labor regulations.
- Integrate opportunities for cost savings and improvements.
- Identify and report opportunities for system improvements.
- Collaborate across departments to meet project milestones.
- Follow up with requestors in a timely manner.
- Communicate steps for completion and provide additional information as needed.
- Represent engineering staff positively and helpfully at all times.
- Anticipate and respond to customer needs, following up until they are met.
- Compile list of materials to be ordered and submit to supervisor.
- Complete and update work orders daily for work completed.
- Prepare requisitions for ERP and assist with project needs as assigned.
- Use supply order system, work order system, and email system as required.
- Speak up when team members exhibit unsafe behavior or performance.
- Validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation.
- Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation.

- Follow all infection control guidelines and install/maintain infection control devices.
- Perform minor electrical maintenance and repairs.
- Repair or replace desk and cabinet locks, door knobs, and locks.
- High dusting including vent cleaning, ledges, fixtures, and sprinkler heads.
