Non-Exempt role - Starting Wage: $23.50 per hour

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for completing daily janitorial services and light maintenance at the Seattle Humane Campus. They work to maintain shelter appearance, equipment, building, grounds and safety. They assist the Facilities Manager with accomplishing departmental goals and projects. Supports the mission, goals, and values of Seattle Humane.

KEY OR

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsible for upkeep of the building by performing routine janitorial services to include but not limited to sweeping, mopping, using large floor cleaners, cleaning & maintaining bathrooms, restocking soap, paper towels, and hand sanitizers, taking out trash and recycling from central locations.
  • Responsible for completing preventative and reactive maintenance within the facilities and across the grounds.
  • Supports vendors on site.
  • Repairs items or equipment at the facility on a daily or emergency basis.
  • Assists with facility preparation and cleaning, as needed, for on-site and off-site events.
  • Assists with inventory counts or procedures pertaining to the department.
  • Works independently to complete light repairs, such as patching and painting walls, changing light bulbs, and other tasks.
  • Always maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Performs work safely and supports a culture of safety and helpfulness in the work environment.
Secondary Functions:
  • Works collaboratively with volunteers assigned to the Facilities department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
COMMUNICATION/INTERPERSONAL CONTACT:
  • Commits to valuing diversity and contributes to an inclusive working environment that is sensitive to other opinions, culture, and perspectives.
  • Responds to requests from staff and volunteers in a respectful manner.
  • Daily verbal and written communication with staff through maintenance schedule, meetings, email, memos, in meetings or in person.
  • Daily communication with Facilities Manager to field and prioritize work tickets.
  • Occasional verbal contact with contractors and the public.
  • Regular internal contact with other departments.
COMPLEXITY:

Custodial Maintenance Associates work on a diverse set of tasks, although there is recurring work during weekly routine maintenance duties. Must be able to coordinate several tasks within a day and remain on schedule with work assignments or projects. Needs a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail to identify potential facility or maintenance problems and determine possible ways to fix them and/or prevent the problem from recurring in the future.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

OR TRAINING:
  • A basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical and carpentry is helpful alongside a willingness to learn.
  • Must have good people skills.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications like Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • One year or more of experience working as a maintenance person, janitorial position, tradesperson, or any related field.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:
  • A valid Washington State driver’s license without any moving violations.
  • Must have the ability to pass required test to become a pallet stacker operator within 6 months of hire.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 60 pounds with or without accommodation. Position requires frequent standing, pushing, pulling, and grasping of objects. Frequently uses eyesight to and hand dexterity to manipulate tools and equipment. Must be able to recognize problems and analyze viable solutions. Attention to detail is important. Must exhibit initiative and motivation in performing all duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Indoor and outdoor working conditions in a kennel and maintenance environment. Exposures to potential hazards include back strain, cleaning chemicals and disinfectants, zoonotic diseases, noise (barking, tools, equipment), potential electrical hazards and power tool hazards.

Equipment Use:

Hand tools and power tools, printer/copier, pressure washer, large floor cleaning machines, leash, Humane Society vehicles, ladders.

Work Hours:

40 hours per week and available to work weekends and occasional evenings.

LOCATION:

The position works onsite at our Bellevue, WA campus.
