Distinguishing Characteristics of Work and Essential AttributesEmployees in this classification are responsible for evaluating, modifying, and performing preventative maintenance functions as well as operating, maintaining, improving, troubleshooting, and repairing all aspects of building systems across all properties in the KDC portfolio on a 24hr-a-day, 7 day-a-week basis (attendance is a significant consideration in this job classification). Work varies but is generally governed by department policies as described in the current Policy Manual, regulations, and operating procedures.
Job performance is reviewed regularly by the Lead Building Engineer.
The Building Engineer is expected to act with a great deal of independence and initiative in daily performance of his/her duties, continuously demonstrating and maintaining proficiency in all Repair and Maintenance related tasks. The Building Engineer will be tested on his/her knowledge and be asked to demonstrate certain skills at regular intervals. English reading /writing skills and verbal communication skills are required.

Repair and Maintenance personnel at KDC cover a wide range of duties across several different environments including retail, office, and exterior.
The Building Engineer is responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing complex electromechanical equipment associated with building infrastructures. This will include but is not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, Energy Management (EMS), Life Safety, and structural elements (egress doors, ceiling components, etc.) of various types of buildings. The Building Engineer will be responsible for completing work orders and repairs across all properties in the KDC Portfolio, maintaining the properties and all equipment designated in a clean and orderly fashion, for performing certain repairs as required (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.)
and for assisting in completing tenant service requests as needed. Responsibilities will also include customer service requirements. The Building Engineer must possess the following skills and specifications:

- Must be able to read and interpret system plans and schematics and to apply troubleshooting skills to repair and maintain systems and equipment.

- Subject to call 24/7, carrying company issued cell phone and/or other electronic communication device(s) that will allow employee to be responsive to portfolio.

- Computer proficiency in standard software including Microsoft Office and applicable maintenance programs.
