Facilities Maintenance Technician (Part-Time)
The South Whatcom Fire Authority (the “Fire Authority” or “SWFA”) serves the communities of Chuckanut, Lake Samish, West Lake Samish, Yew Street Road, Geneva and Sudden Valley. Our 27 career on-shift firefighters and chief officers; and volunteer and part-paid firefighters; as well as dedicated administrative staff and five elected commissioners all work toward the common goal of serving our citizens. SWFA is responsible for providing services to 21 square miles of combined suburban and rural areas, along with additional wilderness recreational regions, and interstate transportation routes.
Our services are mission based and are guided by our principles and values. The Fire Authority provides emergency services including fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services.
The Position:
Under the direction of the Assistant Chief of Support Services, the Facilities Maintenance Technician coordinates and performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and upkeep of South Whatcom Fire Authority and partner agencies’ facilities, grounds, and related systems. The position is non-exempt and overtime eligible after 40 hours per week.
This position may be used to perform similar duties with other partner fire service agencies in Whatcom County under a contract for services.
Minimum Requirements to Apply:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in building, grounds, or facilities maintenance; carpentry; handyperson work; or any combination thereof.
- Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire.
- Must possess or obtain a valid Washington State driver’s license with no record of suspension or revocation in any state.
- Must pass a Washington State Patrol background check; no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English and communicate effectively.
- Must be eligible for Washington State PERS pension program.
- Must possess or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
- Must be willing to travel to attend training and industry-specific conferences, when directed.
- Must be able to operate and drive non-commercial vehicles safely while meeting driving standards established by the Fire Authority.
