Job Title: Sixth Grade Teacher
Reports To: Building Principal
Term & Compensation- FLSA Status: Exempt
- Salary Range: $47,000 - $61,500
- Term: Length of School Year

- Endorsement or approval in bilingual education and English as a Second Language (ESL), or Type 29 Certificate
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and in the selected native language, both orally and in writing
- Knowledge of child growth and development, instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment, and research related to English language acquisition
The Bilingual Teacher provides specialized instruction to develop students’ ability to effectively perform courses of study (Spanish or English as appropriate) and acquire the English language.
Responsibilities- Perform activities listed in the district’s classroom teacher job description as applicable.
- Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English and the students’ native language across Core Curriculum Content Standards, Illinois Learning Standards, Spanish Language Arts Standards (as appropriate), and Illinois English Language Proficiency Standards (IELPS).
- Ensure instruction is consistent and coordinated with the district’s instructional program so students meet and exceed learning targets and meet state and federal requirements.
- Develop and deliver lesson plans using differentiated techniques and strategies addressing all aspects of communication to help students read, write, speak, and listen in content areas and access the district’s instructional program.
- Administer academic and language assessments to evaluate student progress in academic learning targets and language acquisition.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth.
- Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourages student responsibility, enhances motivation, and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
- Facilitate frequent and effective home‑school communication through conferences, written communication, parent trainings, and coordination of childcare, interpreting, translations, etc.
- Attend professional development meetings, build or district committees, and staff meetings as required or established by school policy.
- Understand and comply with policies, rules, and regulations regarding the education of bilingual students and advocate for program needs.
- Perform additional duties as requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, principal, or established by the School Code.
School year. Compensation is established by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the agreed upon Teacher Evaluation Plan.
