Stationary Engineer Apprentice

Melwood is seeking a reliable and motivated Stationary Engineer Apprentice to join our Engineering/Facilities team. The selected candidate will work under the direction of experienced Stationary Engineers and maintenance personnel while gaining practical, hands‑on experience in the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of building mechanical systems.

M-F 8am
-5pm

The Stationary Engineer Apprentice will assist with:

• Monitoring and operating building mechanical systems and equipment.
• Assisting with the operation and maintenance of boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, air-handling units, pumps, compressors, and generators.
• Performing routine inspections and documenting equipment conditions.
• Assisting with preventative maintenance and scheduled maintenance activities.
• Responding to building maintenance requests and assisting with troubleshooting equipment issues.
• Checking gauges, meters, controls, and other equipment indicators and reporting abnormal readings or conditions.
• Assisting with maintaining proper building temperatures and environmental conditions.
• Performing basic mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance tasks under supervision.
• Maintaining maintenance logs, inspection records, and work orders as required.
• Keeping mechanical rooms, equipment areas, and work spaces clean and organized.
• Following all applicable safety procedures and using tools and equipment appropriately.
• Immediately reporting equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or other concerns to the supervisor.
• Assisting experienced engineers with repairs, adjustments, and other assigned engineering tasks.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Interest in stationary engineering, HVAC, mechanical systems, building operations, or facilities maintenance.
• Willingness to learn through hands‑on training and instruction.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and building personnel.
• Dependable, punctual, and willing to take direction.
• Ability to follow established safety procedures and workplace policies.

The apprentice will receive on‑the‑job training and work alongside experienced engineering personnel to develop knowledge and skills related to building systems, preventative maintenance, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and general facilities operations.
