ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Facilities Department provides facility management, building and grounds maintenance, and custodial services for County-owned facilities and grounds. In support of County departments and offices that provide direct services to the community, Facilities Department teams work from a central warehouse in Bend managing and maintaining facilities across Deschutes County at sites in La Pine, Sisters, Redmond, and Bend.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position is responsible for maintaining attractive, sanitary, and safe facilities for Deschutes County staff and the public by performing janitorial and custodial duties. Duties include routine cleaning, trash disposal, restroom sanitation, and replenishing restroom supplies; cleaning, waxing, and polishing floors; vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets; cleaning windows, walls, blinds, and woodwork; checking facilities and grounds for unsafe conditions which includes reporting hazards and dangerous areas.

Work schedule is Monday through Friday 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform custodial and janitorial duties, including routine cleaning, trash disposal, and restroom sanitation in County Facilities.
  • Perform a variety of unskilled building trades work in the maintenance, adjustment, installation, and repair of facilities, equipment, and components in buildings and grounds; make appropriate decisions based on work experience and training; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
  • Follow safety rules and County procedures to minimize risk of accidents and liability exposure, check facilities and grounds for unsafe conditions.
  • Report safety conditions, security issues, and illegal activities; report problems and emergency situations.

BENEFITS

Salary: $3,686.04 to $4,939.64 per month for a 172.67-hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.

Our robust health plan is offered at a minimal cost of $100 per month for employee only or $121 per month for employee plus dependents, which includes an innovative on-site clinic, pharmacy, and wellness and wellbeing services. Eligibility
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Some work experience in custodial and building maintenance.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be given for prior custodial work experience.

Driving is a requirement for this position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date is required. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances. Must have dependable transportation and be willing to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.

This position requires possession of or the ability to obtain a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within 90 days of hire date. Must be approved by the designated CJIS through a fingerprint-based national and state criminal background check for access to CJIS. Must complete the appropriate level of CJIS Security Awareness Training.
