Building Engineer; 3RD SHIFT

Job Summary

Operating/Building Engineer – On‑site, Mascoutah, IL / St. Louis, MO. This role keeps our facilities running at peak performance by operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across all building systems.

• Operate, maintain, and repair mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems to ensure all facility and building systems meet applicable standards.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems and associated equipment—including cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and replacing parts—to maintain optimal performance.
• Record equipment readings and system parameters, make necessary adjustments, and identify potential issues before they worsen.
• Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors to ensure standards are met and costs remain competitive.
• Maintain responsibility for facility services, purchasing, inventory control, contracted maintenance coordination, and general maintenance tasks.
• Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory to ensure all equipment is available, properly maintained, and ready for use.
• Troubleshoot and repair lighting systems, including ballast replacement throughout the facility.
• Maintain and repair plumbing fixtures—including toilets, urinals, and hand wash stations—and operate drain cleaning augers to resolve blockages.
• Comply with departmental policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials while maintaining a clean and safe workplace at all times.

• 5+ years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems.
• Ability to analyze the operation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, determine causes of problems, and take corrective action.
• Working knowledge of CMMS (e.g., Corrigo).
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Physical ability to bend, sit, kneel, squat, stand, reach, and lay as required to access equipment components for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work exposed to varying environmental conditions including heat, sunlight, rain, cold, and both daylight and nighttime hours.

• EPA 608 Type II certification or higher for refrigerant handling.
• Additional EPA certifications (universal certification preferred).
• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Trade certifications or technical school training in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing disciplines.
• Experience working in mission‑critical facilities or environments requiring 24/7 operations.

10:00PM – 6:30AM, Sunday – Thursday.

$62,400.00 – $74,880.00
