Job Summary

The Facilities Technician I performs scheduled and unscheduled building maintenance tasks such as general maintenance, carpentry, electrical, heating/ventilation/air conditioning, plumbing, power plant, painting, and building and grounds. Works efficiently to maintain Theda Care facilities in a safe and pleasant condition.

SCHEDULE:

Part time, benefit eligible 20 hrs/week 8:00am-4:30pm Typically 2 shifts week one, and 3 shifts week two.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provides a timely and effective response to unanticipated facility needs minimizing risks to patients and team members to maintain safety and avoid interruption of service.
  • Maintains compliance with safety procedures and city, county, state, and national ordinances and codes.
  • Inspects buildings, systems, components, and other structures to determine functional status of the equipment.
  • Detects malfunctions and the need for repairs by making notes and recommendations within a standardized maintenance program.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for the following based on qualifications and/or skills:
    • Electrical equipment including replacement or repair of light fixtures, ballasts, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, and cords using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
    • Plumbing equipment and systems including replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, and miscellaneous repairs.
    • HVAC equipment and systems including replacement of filters, belts, clean coils, and intake screens, cleaning and replacement of piping and tubing for ice machines and refrigerators, and cleaning and sanitizing of water and refrigeration equipment to ensure the facility meets all healthcare environment standards.
    • Power plant equipment and systems (i.e., boilers, hot and cold water systems, chiller plants, and water softener systems).
    • General building maintenance (i.e., build, install, and/or modify campus work spaces, hang doors, fix locks and handles, move equipment and furnishings) to accommodate user needs and maximize space using various hand, power, and specialty tools, dollies, and hand trucks.
    • Patient care equipment, fire detection and extinguishing system, and ancillary healthcare systems (i.e., tube system).
    • General carpentry work including repair or replacement of cabinetry, shelves, furniture, doors, and hardware.
    • Prepares surfaces by applying coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces.
    • Inspects, caulks, and repairs fire and smoke walls.
    • Hangs pictures, banners, frames, etc., according to Theda Care standards.
    • Exterior buildings and grounds.
  • Orders parts and maintains required documents.
  • Performs other work as assigned.
  • Attends training sessions and seminars to achieve and/or maintain qualifications or certifications.
  • Qualifications
    • High school diploma or GED
    • One year of technical/trade school training or one year of experience in maintenance or a related field
    Physical Demands
    • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance.
    • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties.
    Work Environment
    • Occasional exposure to sharp objects and instruments
    • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
    • Frequent high noise level in work environment
    • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
    • Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients
