Paraprofessional - Developmental Learning Program (DLP)
Job Goal: DLP Program is a highly individualized classroom designed to serve students that require intensive and/or alternate instruction based on their cognitive and developmental needs. A paraprofessional in this setting works with the classroom teacher to provide educational programming in a nurturing and child centered environment that best meets the students' needs.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Possesses knowledge of District policies and regulations relating to areas of responsibilities
- Maintains professional competence through participation in District provided in-service activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to job responsibilities
- Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff
- Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on the understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities
- Assists as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the grade level team
- Assists teachers in instructional activities that allow for differentiated learning opportunities
- Advises the certified staff and/or administrator to any problem or special information about a student
- Develops positive working relationships with school personnel and parents
- Is capable of physically assisting students with special needs, including students using wheelchairs, of any grade level (Preschool - 8th grade) with personal needs and care including eating, dressing, positioning, bathing/cleansing, grooming, toileting, standing, bus loading, and lifting/carrying or supporting students who may weigh 60 or more pounds
- Assists with the monitoring and supervising of students during non-instructional times/areas such as: classroom, hall, lunch, recess, bus, or as otherwise requested
- Promotes and models school behavior management programs
- Assists and carries out other duties assigned by supervising teacher and/or by building administrator(s)
