Primary Function
:
Responsible for increasing student achievement. Main functions include but are not limited to:
- Assisting students with developing thinking skills and content knowledge
- Providing language support as needed
- Planning and implementation of standards-based instruction
- Establishing a positive classroom environment and culture for learning
- Analyzing data and action planning
- Consistently communicating with stakeholders
- Implementing the SIOP framework and meta linguistic awareness
- Providing data and reports that are evidence of student progress
Accountability
:
Reports to Building Level Administrators & District Level Administrators
Education/Certification
:
- Professional Educator's Licence (PEL) with degree/endorsement in ESL
- Bachelor's Degree in Education
- Master's Degree preferred
- SPED endorsements preferred
Knowledge/Skills
:
- Thorough understanding of the Illinois Learning Standards
- Thorough knowledge of the SIOP framework and/or strategies that lead to increased student achievement
- Thorough knowledge of best practices in English as a Second Language
- Thorough understanding of the content being taught
- Strong planning and implementation skills
- Communicate clearly orally and in writing in both Spanish and English preferred
- Data analysis skills
- Knowledge/implementation of restorative discipline practices
- Strong understanding of equitable classroom practices
- High expectations for all students including language learners
Other
:
- Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations including special education laws
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior; serve as a role model for students and other staff
- Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
- Other duties as assigned
