Job Summary

The EVS Supervisor
- Weekend Night Shift is a part-time frontline supervisory position responsible for directing, coordinating, and overseeing all Healthcare Environmental Services (EVS) operations performed during the Saturday and Sunday overnight shift at the NIH Clinical Center, Bethesda, MD. The Supervisor ensures that all housekeeping, cleaning, and disinfection activities are performed by assigned weekend night EVS staff in full compliance with NIH contractual requirements, The Joint Commission (TJC) Environment of Care standards, CDC infection prevention and control guidelines, OSHA regulations, NIH Division of Facilities Management (DFM) directives, and all applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Because weekend overnight operations are conducted with minimal management, administrative, and NIH staff presence, this position serves as the senior on-site EVS representative for the assigned weekend night shift: directly leading EVS technicians and aides, assigning and monitoring work assignments, conducting shift rounds, overseeing scheduled night project and floor care work, enforcing performance and conduct standards, exercising independent judgment within delegated authority, and serving as the first point of escalation between frontline EVS staff and the on-call Assistant Executive Housekeeper or Executive Housekeeper on all operational matters.

Work Schedule:

Part-time, weekend night shift only
- Saturday and Sunday, approximately 10:00 p.m.

- 6:30 a.m. (16 scheduled hours per week); shifts begin Saturday and Sunday evening and end the following morning. Exact shift start and stop times are established by the approved NIH contract staffing schedule. Night shift differential is applied per the applicable SCA Wage Determination and Teya compensation policy. Coverage is required on weekends that fall on or adjacent to federal holidays, and during NIH contingency, weather, and emergency operations.

• Directs and coordinates the daily work activities of assigned EVS Housekeeping Aides, Floor Care Technicians, and Linen Distribution Aides within the designated NIH Clinical Center section or shift; assigns work zones, tasks, and priorities in accordance with the approved staffing schedule and NIH contract requirements.
• Conducts daily rounds of all assigned areas to verify that EVS cleaning and disinfection tasks are being performed correctly, on schedule, and in accordance with NIH-specified service level standards, TJC Environment of Care requirements, and CDC infection prevention protocols; documents deficiencies and takes immediate corrective action.
• Monitors productivity of assigned EVS staff against AHE (Association for the Healthcare Environment) productivity standards and NIH contract QASP thresholds; identifies performance gaps and initiates corrective measures in coordination with the Assistant Executive Housekeeper.
• Manages daily attendance, call-outs, and shift coverage for assigned staff; adjusts assignments to ensure all critical areas including patient care units, isolation rooms, operating suites, and high-traffic public areas receive timely and complete service; escalates unresolved coverage gaps to the AEH or EH promptly.
• Responds to urgent and emergency cleaning requests from NIH clinical staff, charge nurses, and facility management, including isolation room setup and terminal cleaning activation, blood and body fluid spill response, and patient discharge/transfer cleaning; ensures response times comply with NIH contract requirements.
