Custodian II – Big Spring State Hospital

Posting  | Closing Date: 08/28/2026 | Salary: $2,694.70–$3,269.08 per month

• Perform moderately complex custodial work including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning windows and light fixtures.
• Clean, disinfect, and sanitize all areas to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
• Operate floor maintenance equipment such as strippers, buffers, vacuums, and extractors.
• Maintain and restock supplies as necessary.
• Assist in inspections of buildings and equipment for cleanliness and needed repairs.
• Perform minor building and equipment repairs and installations.
• Maintain assigned custodial equipment in good working order.
• Maintain outside areas around the hospital, clear trash and debris.
• Coaching and assisting other custodians as needed.
• Document work accurately and maintain inventory and equipment records.
• Participate in disaster response, recovery, or continuity of operations activities as required.

• Attend work regularly and conform to shift schedules, including potential rotating schedules and overtime.
• Perform custodial functions in a timely and high‑quality manner.
• Ensure proper sanitization and disinfection according to training.
• Inspect assigned buildings and areas for cleanliness and need for minor repairs.
• Complete documentation accurately and protect confidential information.
• Assist patients in maintaining optimal health and a safe environment.

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations.
• Knowledge of infection control principles and methods.
• Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
• Skills in the use of custodial equipment and building maintenance tools.
• Ability to stay on task and complete work promptly.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods.
• Ability to work harmoniously with co‑workers and patients.
• Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime.

• Six months of work experience required.
• Preferred experience in custodial or environmental services in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel, or similar setting.
• Minimum age of 18 years (21 years for certain youth centers).
• Must pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and required registry checks.
• Compliance with state immunization policies and vaccination requirements.
