Custodian II – Big Spring State Hospital
Location1901 N Highway 87, Big Spring, Texas

Responsibilities- Perform moderately complex custodial work including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning windows and light fixtures.
- Clean, disinfect, and sanitize all areas to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
- Operate floor maintenance equipment such as strippers, buffers, vacuums, and extractors.
- Maintain and restock supplies as necessary.
- Assist in inspections of buildings and equipment for cleanliness and needed repairs.
- Perform minor building and equipment repairs and installations.
- Maintain assigned custodial equipment in good working order.
- Maintain outside areas around the hospital, clear trash and debris.
- Coaching and assisting other custodians as needed.
- Document work accurately and maintain inventory and equipment records.
- Participate in disaster response, recovery, or continuity of operations activities as required.
- Attend work regularly and conform to shift schedules, including potential rotating schedules and overtime.
- Perform custodial functions in a timely and high‑quality manner.
- Ensure proper sanitization and disinfection according to training.
- Inspect assigned buildings and areas for cleanliness and need for minor repairs.
- Complete documentation accurately and protect confidential information.
- Assist patients in maintaining optimal health and a safe environment.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations.
- Knowledge of infection control principles and methods.
- Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
- Skills in the use of custodial equipment and building maintenance tools.
- Ability to stay on task and complete work promptly.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods.
- Ability to work harmoniously with co‑workers and patients.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime.
- Six months of work experience required.
- Preferred experience in custodial or environmental services in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel, or similar setting.
- Minimum age of 18 years (21 years for certain youth centers).
- Must pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and required registry checks.
- Compliance with state immunization policies and vaccination requirements.
