This position is from 2:30pm to 11:00pm (Tuesday-Friday) and 6:30am to 3:00pm (Saturday) and pays $22.81 per hour plus a shift differential.
Job Goal:
To provide the students with a safe, clean, comfortable and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.
- Provide preventive maintenance on a regular schedule for all motors, mechanical equipment and heating utility systems as required to keep them in proper operating condition at all times.
- Keep all firefighting equipment in first class order and readily accessible; know how to use and operate firefighting equipment in the building in case of emergency.
- Know how to use and maintain power scrubbing and polishing machines, wet and dry vacuums, power motors, snow blowers and similar equipment.
- Respond to requests from a school principal or teachers in the school.
- Clean all custodial equipment and tools, returning them to their storage area after each use.
- Inform head custodian or principals when tools or equipment are lost or damaged beyond repair to insure availability of equipment and tools when necessary for custodial operation or building maintenance.
- Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
- Shovel, plow and sand walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate.
- Check daily to ensure all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during building occupancy hours.
- Sweep classrooms daily, dust furniture and perform other duties outlined in custodial route schedule.
- Clean custodial corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it.
- Scrub, hose down and disinfect toilet floors daily; clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary.
- Keep the grounds free from rubbish.
- Perform yard keeping chores such as grass cutting, tree trimming and the like as necessary to maintain school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
- Keep all floors clean and attractive and in a good state of preservation.
- Clean chalkboards at least once a week.
- Make minor building repairs.
- Report major repairs needed promptly to the head custodian.
- Maintain on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.
- Report immediately to the principal any damage to school property.
- Remain on the school premises during school hours and during non‑school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his attendance required by the principal.
- Assume responsibility for opening and closing the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair.
- Move furniture or equipment within building as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
- Perform additional tasks as may be assigned from time to time.
- Experienced in building cleaning and minor maintenance.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building custodial work.
- Ability to make minor repairs.
- Demonstrated aptitude of competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Such alternative to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
