Position

Custodian III – 12‑Month Position, July 2026 – Open Until Filled. Mondays to Fridays, 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Salary: $23.01 /hour.

Responsibilities
  • Works as a supervisory custodian, overseeing custodial staff.
  • Collects and disposes of garbage; sweeps, mops, and dusts rooms.
  • Cleans, repairs, changes filters and other equipment under head custodian supervision.
  • Strips and scrubs floors, finishes and refines all types of floors.
  • Provides grounds care and irrigation; dusts rooms and furniture, performs wet mopping, cleans sinks, washes walls, cleans lights, and moves furniture and supplies.
  • Clean woodwork, clean school grounds, replace light tubes and bulbs, wash interior and exterior glass.
  • Performs pest control, paints floors, and performs other duties as requested by head custodian.
  • Assists head custodians in boiler operation and other duties.
  • Clean chalkboards and erasers, reports equipment damage or malfunctions to head custodians.
  • Acts as a substitute for head custodian.
  • Performs duties safely in compliance with Billings Public Schools safety policies and the Montana Safety Culture Act.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by head custodian or administrator.

Pre‑employment physicals are required for this position and are paid for by the District.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of custodial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning equipment, machinery, supplies, and techniques.
  • Supervisory knowledge expected.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical activity and operate cleaning equipment and machinery.
  • Maintain effective work relationships, communicate effectively, and deal with the public.
