Cleaner, Janitor

Duties Description

Part-time and full‑time entry‑level custodial positions on various shifts. A cleaner performs a variety of routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort in cleaning and caring for an assigned area in buildings and adjacent grounds and sidewalks.

• Working knowledge of the properties of various cleaning substances.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and simple written instructions in English.
• Ability to stand, stoop, bend and stretch for long periods of time.
• Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor.
• Ability to use various cleaning equipment and products.
• Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds and shovel snow.
• Ability to read, write and understand English.
• Successful applicants must be good communicators, have a positive attitude, and be able to work productively as a team member.

• Full time: 11 pm–7 am (Weekend shifts may be necessary as well as Monday holidays with the exception of Christmas and New Year’s Day if they fall on a Monday; pass days vary)
• Full time: 4 am–12:30 pm, Monday‑Friday
• Full time (evenings): 5 pm–1 am, Monday‑Friday
• Part‑time (weekends): 1st shift – Saturday, Sunday & Monday (including Monday holidays with the exception of Christmas and New Year’s Day if they fall on a Monday)
• Part‑time (day shift):
  Monday‑Friday 10 am–2:30 pm (+/- 30 min depending on building assignment)

Upon hire, a 52‑week probationary period must be served. Positions include a New York State employee benefits package including health, dental, vision prescription and retirement plans as well as the opportunity for tuition assistance.
