Position OverviewThe FPA Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and functionality of the schools and network offices. Under the supervision of the Lead Operations member or Head of School, the custodian maintains assigned buildings or groups of buildings, ensuring office spaces remain clean, orderly, and secure during assigned shifts.
Duties & Essential Functions- Cleans restrooms, dressing rooms, shower rooms, classrooms, and common areas.
- Stocks toilet and sanitary supplies.
- Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors.
- Dust and polish furniture and woodwork.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
- Washes windows and walls.
- Polishes metal work and takes care of equipment and materials.
- Set up and prepare rooms for special events and needs.
- Reports needed repair work to proper authorities.
- Performs minor repairs to building fixtures and equipment.
- Wax and refinish floors and shampoo carpets.
- Pick up paper and debris from grounds and buildings.
- May perform miscellaneous maintenance such as touch‑up painting.
- Assures security of buildings and grounds during assigned times.
- Moves and rearranges furniture, chairs, desks, tables, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- One year of experience in the custodial field or similar work experience.
- DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance consistent with the expectations for the position.
- Knowledge of modern cleaning methods including chalk and whiteboard, carpet, furniture, wall, and fixture cleaning.
- Familiarity with proper methods, techniques, materials, disinfectants, tools, and equipment used in custodial work.
- Knowledge of safety best practices and work methods.
- Proper lifting techniques.
- Understanding of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
- Oral and written communication skills; health and safety regulations knowledge.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Maintain an assigned school site, group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner during an assigned shift.
- Maintain routine records such as work orders, equipment repairs, chemical application, cleaning schedules, and overtime assignments.
- Use common cleaning materials and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Learn custodial procedures, methods, and schedules.
- Observe and report safety hazards and maintenance needs.
- Maintain tools and equipment in clean working order.
- Operate a variety of custodial equipment including floor stripper, buffer, carpet cleaners, vacuum, and other small power and hand tools.
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
- Perform minor repairs and follow oral and written instructions.
- Meet schedules and timelines.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures exceeding 90°F at times.
- Regular exposure to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises.
- Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals such as disinfectants, graffiti remover, floor stripper, floor wax, propane, and paint thinner.
- Direct contact with the public, students, and district staff.
- Working on ladders at varying heights.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate custodial equipment.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Clarity of vision at varying distances.
- Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to communicate effectively.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Reaching overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally.
- Climbing ladders and working from varying heights as needed.
- Working with chemicals, tools, and powered machinery.
- Possible contact with blood‑borne pathogens and/or bodily fluids.
Hourly Rate: $15 per hour
