Head Custodian
Reports To:
Principal/Custodian Foreman
Work Days: 12 Months 240 Days - Salary:
Classified Schedule 76 Level 2 ($40,622 – 45,771)

The purpose of the Head Custodian is to maintain an attractive, sanitary, safe facility for students, staff, and the public. A head custodian supervises the cleaning and maintenance of a building.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow job related instructions given by the Principal and the Director of Facilities.
- Responsible for overseeing any minor repairs.
- Responsible for devising a plan for the cleaning of each office or room in his/her building on a daily basis, such as dusting, vacuuming, washing windows, waxing floors and shampooing carpet.
- Maintain a safe atmosphere for students and persons working in building as well as visitors.
- Order materials necessary for the upkeep of the building while staying within his/her assigned budget.
- Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
- After opening the building each day at the designated time, checks to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of occupancy.
- Daily, at the designated time, secure all doors and windows, and turn off lights except those left on for security reasons.
- Clean restrooms and drinking fountains daily according to health department regulations.
- Clean classrooms and corridors daily.
- Removes trash and rubbish from campus daily;
- Care for plants inside the building.
- Move furniture and equipment within the building as directed by the Building Manager, Principal and Director of Facilities.
- Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state & federal rules & regulations.
- Engage in professional growth & demonstrates professional ethics & leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must provide own transportation.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Alabama Driver's License.
- 5 years of relevant work experience required.
