Position: Aircraft Mechanic III APG - T-38

Compensation

$40 - $50 hourly

Responsibilities
  • Inspect and assess damage to aircraft structural components and formulate proper repair/replacement procedures.
  • Remove and install close tolerance, high‑strength fasteners in major aircraft structural components.
  • Design structural repair, modification, and corrosion protection treatments while maintaining original strength, weight, and contour.
  • Perform post‑repair flight control weight and balance functions and control surface rigging per technical orders.
  • Inspect components and repairs for structural serviceability per specifications and technical publications.
  • Manufacture and use jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds to fabricate repair or replacement parts.
  • Use advanced metalworking practices, equipment, and tools to form, cut, bend, and fasten replacement or repair parts.
  • Train shop drawing and depot‑level metal layout techniques, shop mathematics, corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention, cleaning of metals, application of protective coatings, and markings.
  • Recommend methods to improve equipment performance and maintenance procedures.
  • Use automated maintenance systems to input, validate, analyze data, and close out maintenance discrepancies.
  • Document maintenance in accordance with QA and regulatory requirements.
  • Store, handle, and dispose of hazardous waste and materials per environmental standards.
  • Operate and maintain related aircraft support equipment.
  • Monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions using automated systems.
  • Perform regular FOD walks and maintain strict tool control procedures.
  • Report missing, lost, found, or unattended tools, and inventory and inspect tools regularly.
  • Comply with safety rules and promptly report accidents, injuries, safety violations, or unsafe practices.
  • Enter maintenance records and verify completed work meets quality standards.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the organization.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • High‑level depot‑level processes and procedures for replacement of major structural components.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documentation, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong decision analysis and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communication of technical issues to management.
  • Knowledge of fixed‑wing aircraft construction features, aerospace material properties, and hazardous material handling.
  • Experience in fabrication and depot repair/replacement of metal components, tubing, cable, plastic, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite structural components.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills and willingness to learn additional software.
  • Proficiency with respirator or breathing equipment during assigned duties.
  • Accurate data entry and routine report writing.
  • Interpersonal skills for effective teamwork across all levels.
  • Basic mathematics and self‑motivation to work independently.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 12 years of relevant aircraft structural maintenance experience (fixed or rotary wing commercial, government or DoD aircraft).
  • 10 years of direct work on T‑38 aircraft and 5+ years of depot‑level structural maintenance.
  • Prior Air Force Specialty Code 2A773 highly desirable.
  • Multi‑aspect aviation qualifications or certifications with the ability to train others.
  • Experience supporting DoD contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of depot‑level maintenance practices.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
  • Preferred:
    Rigging Certification, Engine Run Certification, FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant certification.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.
