The purpose of the Head Custodian is to maintain an attractive, sanitary, safe facility for students, staff, and the public. A head custodian supervises the cleaning and maintenance of a building.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Following job related instructions given by the Principal and the Director of Facilities.
• Overseeing any minor repairs.
• Devising a plan for the cleaning of each office or room in his/her building on a daily basis, such as dusting, vacuuming, washing windows, waxing floors and shampooing carpet.
• Maintaining a safe atmosphere for students and persons working in building as well as visitors.
• Ordering materials necessary for the upkeep of the building while staying within his/her assigned budget.
• Keeping building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
• After opening the building each day at the designated time, checking to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of occupancy.
• Daily, at the designated time, securing all doors and windows, and turning off lights except those left on for security reasons.
• Cleaning restrooms and drinking fountains daily according to health department regulations.
• Cleaning classrooms and corridors daily.
• Removing trash and rubbish from campus daily.
• Caring for plants inside the building.
• Moving furniture and equipment within the building as directed by the Building Manager, Principal and Director of Facilities.
• Adhering to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state & federal rules & regulations.
• Engaging in professional growth & demonstrating professional ethics & leadership.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Must provide own transportation.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Alabama Driver's License.
• 5 years of relevant work experience required.
