Position: CUSTODIAN FOREMAN 2026

JOB TITLE: Custodial Foreman

REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities and Maintenance

WORKDAYS: 12 Months (240 Days)

SALARY: Classified Salary Schedule 60-1 ($73,879 – $80,567)

LOCATION: Maintenance Department

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Custodial Foreman will largely work indoors but will also work outside in all kinds of weather, and often in the dark. Most of the custodian’s work-time involves undertaking activities of a physical nature. Seasonal weather-related activity such as cleaning leaves in the fall, ice snow in the winter (if applicable) and supervise window cleaning in the summer months may require prolonged work time outside.

He/She will frequently stand, but will also walk, climb stairs and ladders, sit, push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach in the normal course of their workday. He/She may routinely lift up to 55lbs by him/herself with and/or without assistance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and in support of the District’s mission.
  • Ensure proper standards of cleanliness and pristine building appearance regarding the custodial, maintenance, and grounds needs of the facility.
  • Plan, implement, oversee and participate in the custodial activities of the site.
  • Coordinate onsite work activities of custodians.
  • Inspect the building custodial teamwork areas to ensure that they are clean and suitable for safe operations and identify necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, or normal operating wear.
  • Assume a leadership role and assist with the direction of work.
  • Ensure Head Custodians are monitoring the building operations and maintenance systems by reporting safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate authority; reports and recommends needed maintenance repairs to appropriate authority (e.g., ventilation systems, generator alarms, fire alarms, firefighting equipment) to ensure a safe and efficient working environment; respond to immediate safety or operational concerns such as system failures, fires, and water leaks, and take appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and ensure a safe and efficient working and learning environment;

    respond to non-urgent issues by submitting a work order as appropriate or making a recommendation to the building administrator.
  • Prepare documentation to provide written support and/or convey information.
  • Ensure building custodial team picks up paper, trash, and debris around the interior and exterior of the site; rakes or blows; sweeps and cleans walkways and entrances; disposes of trash and washes out trashcans; and performs daily and routine cleaning and upkeep.
  • Respond to emergency cleanups and to immediate needs for cleaning, mechanical or safety assistance as requested by school staff.
  • Plan and implement appropriate responses to emergencies. Ensure building custodial team actively participates in all fire and safety drills.
  • Assist in the development and updating of building operation manuals and custodial routes.
  • Ensure building custodial team follows proper cleaning procedures and uses proper chemicals and cleaners safely, productively, and according to directions given in training.
  • Learn and utilize new tools and technologies as needed by the District.
  • Attend training courses as required and respond to instructions both on the job and in training classes.
  • Assist in training building custodial teams on proper cleaning procedures, chemical use, equipment, tools and technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must provide own transportation.
  • Must possess six years of experience in custodial work or any combination of experience and training that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the job.
  • Must read, understand, and follow multi-step written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Must be able to perform basic math calculations.
