Job Title: Maintenance Assistant – Skilled Nursing Facility
Location: Birmingham, Alabama
Facility: Redmont Health and Rehabilitation Center

Redmont Health and Rehabilitation Center is seeking a dependable Maintenance Assistant to support maintenance operations at our skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in Birmingham, Alabama.

This is a full-time opportunity for someone with experience in general building maintenance, repairs, and facility operations. The Maintenance Assistant plays an important role in ensuring a safe, clean, comfortable, and fully operational environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

We are looking for a hands-on team member who can complete daily maintenance tasks, respond to work orders, and assist the Maintenance Director with maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations for long-term care facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with general facility maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and minor repairs
  • Complete assigned work orders accurately and in a timely manner
  • Assist with preventative maintenance schedules, inspections, logs, and compliance documentation
  • Conduct routine inspections of resident rooms, common areas, equipment, facility grounds, and building systems
  • Promptly report safety hazards, equipment failures, and needed repairs to the Maintenance Director
  • Respond quickly to maintenance requests and assist with emergency facility issues
  • Help maintain resident rooms, furniture, fixtures, doors, lighting, and other facility equipment
  • Assist with grounds maintenance, waste removal, deliveries, and seasonal maintenance as needed
  • Follow all infection control, workplace safety, and Life Safety Code requirements
  • Assist the Maintenance Director with state surveys, fire inspections, and other regulatory inspections as needed
  • Coordinate appropriately with residents and staff while completing repairs in occupied areas
  • Maintain tools, supplies, equipment, and maintenance work areas in a safe and organized condition
  • Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director or Administrator
  • Help maintain a safe and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors
Qualifications
  • Previous maintenance experience in a skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation center, hospital, assisted living community, or other healthcare environment preferred
  • General knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and basic building repairs
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment
  • Understanding of healthcare facility regulations, workplace safety, and life safety compliance preferred
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned work independently
  • Strong communication, organization, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with residents, families, staff, vendors, and visitors
  • Must be dependable and able to respond promptly to maintenance needs
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods while performing assigned duties
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Maintenance-related licensure or certifications preferred but not required
