Join the State Historical Society of North Dakota as a Custodian and help ensure the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum provides an exceptional experience for visitors and team members every day. As a Custodian, you will perform a variety of custodial and light maintenance duties to maintain a clean, safe, and inviting environment throughout the facility.
This position offers the opportunity to work both independently and as part of a team while making a visible impact on one of North Dakota's premier cultural attractions. Every day is a little different, from preparing the museum for visitors before opening to helping ensure meetings, programs, and special events are welcoming and successful.
This position's core hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and typically include every fifth weekend.
SalaryThe posted salary reflects the hiring range for this position. Upon successful completion of the new employee probationary period, employees may be eligible for a monthly salary increase.
Primary Responsibilities- Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and scrubbing floors, carpets, and other surfaces.
- Cleaning and dusting furniture, fixtures, windows, walls, and related furnishings.
- Responding promptly to spills and other custodial needs to maintain a safe environment.
- Sanitizing drinking fountains and restrooms and collecting and disposing of waste and recyclables.
- Assisting with the setup and teardown of events.
- Monitoring the facility and reporting safety concerns or maintenance needs to the appropriate team members.
- Performing other custodial and related duties as assigned.
To be considered for the position,?applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred qualifications include at least one year of custodial or facility maintenance experience, including duties such as vacuuming carpets, sweeping and mopping floors, and sanitizing restrooms and fixtures. Applicants must be able to safely operate and transport equipment such as walk‑behind sweepers, Genie lifts, and floor scrubbers.
This position requires the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work responsibilities also require frequent standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, stretching, and climbing for extended periods of time. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State Historical Society does not provide sponsor ships.
