Maintenance Assistant/Driver

The Carriages of Bloomington is growing our team, and we are looking for exceptional individuals to fill our Maintenance Technician/Driver position. We take pride in providing our residents with quality care, sensitivity, and kindness while respecting their independence.

The Maintenance Technician/Driver is required to keep the residence and grounds in good repair in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations; maintain a clean and safe environment for residents; prepare vacant rooms/apartments for new residents, provide safe transportation for residents, and respond promptly to all repair needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs, including minor plumbing, painting, drywall, and light electrical work.
  • Maintain the residence, common areas, and grounds in a clean, safe, and well-maintained condition.
  • Prepare vacant rooms or apartments for new residents.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and repair needs.
  • Follow all safety, fire, and OSHA guidelines, including proper handling of materials and equipment.
  • Provide safe transportation for residents to appointments, outings, and activities.
  • Assist residents when entering and exiting vehicles, including use of wheelchair lifts when needed.
  • Complete routine inspections and report any safety concerns or needed repairs.
  • Support a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for residents, families, and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of general maintenance experience.
  • Experience with drywall, plumbing, painting, and light electrical work.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and make independent decisions.
  • Capable of following through with projects with minimal assistance after explanation and demonstration if needed.
  • A valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and an acceptable MVR report are required.
  • At least one year of professional driving or transportation experience is highly preferred.
  • Operating a wheelchair lift (training available at the community).
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within the first 90 days of employment (provided by The Carriages).

Knowledge requirements:

  • Safety and fire codes.
  • OSHA and MSDS sheets.
  • Familiarity with memory care residents preferred.
  • 24 hours per week.
