PRIMARY PURPOSE
To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities, keeping them clean, sanitary and orderly, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES- High Dusting
Using a treated high duster, begin cleaning in a counter‑clockwise direction around the room – high dust surfaces above shoulder height, i.e., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges. Cleaning the High Duster:
Gently brush in a downward direction into service cart. - Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning
Using a germicidal solution, work counter‑clockwise around the room, sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height – ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, and trashcans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows. - Bathroom Cleaning
Using germicidal solution, wipe down in the following order: above and below sink, toilet seat and outside of toilet bowl, and the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and proper germicidal solution. Clean and check soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily, refill as needed. Empty trash cans. - Floor Dusting or Vacuuming
Using a treated dust mophead, begin at the back of the room using the “S” stroke; dust under all furniture and in restroom, stopping just inside the door. Sweep dust into a dustpan and dispose into the service cart. When vacuuming, start at the back and work toward the door, getting under chairs and other furniture. - Grounds Care – Outside Areas
Clean and check several times daily: ash urns, trash cans, sidewalks, flower beds, curb line, truck parking, public common areas, and parking lot. Spot‑clean spills, remove gum with scraper, wipe benches and vending machines, clean lower window ledges, high dust the area for dust and cobwebs, and clean glass as necessary. - Food Court
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Return chairs to tables. Spot‑clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove accumulated dirty trays, wash with tray power washer, and stack clean trays on shelf for recycled use. Police outside eating areas. - Floor Sanitizing
Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and mop floor, moving under furniture, behind doors, and around the room outbound. Inspect the room after completion, review cleaning steps, and correct any missed areas. - Inspection and Maintenance
Review cleaning steps and furniture placement to prevent problems or complaints. Check hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, walls, and perform high dusting daily. - Customer Relations and Service
Knock lightly on doors before entering. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to a supervisor. Report broken or out‑of‑order items to supervisor. Maintain quiet, reduce noise, and stay in assigned area unless otherwise directed. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance at all times. - General Duties
Do other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or account manager, which may include floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto‑scrub and buffing of floors.
- Knowledge of basic janitorial operations, methods, materials, and equipment.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and use of toxic and non‑toxic chemicals per MSDS sheets.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Communicate with co‑workers and supervisors.
- Operate powered and non‑powered janitorial equipment.
- Interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
- Maintain physical condition suitable to the duties: walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods; operating equipment; lifting or carrying 1–30 lbs.; pushing or pulling with both hands and arms; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, and balancing; kneeling, crouching, and crawling; reaching and using tools. Overhead reaching required throughout shift.
- Sight – proper depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operating equipment and tools.
