Description
TITLE: Operating Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Engineering
REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering or Hotel Manager
LOCATION: Double Tree Bloomington Minneapolis South - Franchise
JOB SUMMARY- Respond to guest room calls as required.
- Take charge of a watch and perform the duties required on the job during the watch.
- Service and repair equipment falling under the jurisdiction of the Operating Engineer.
- Maintain all buildings and equipment throughout the hotel.
- Perform general repairs and services in all maintenance related disciplines, including but not limited to; carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, minor electrical, finish work, etc.
- Prioritize work orders through urgent requests and established hotel area down times in order to minimize inconveniencing guests.
- Complete any and all assigned preventative maintenance procedures.
- Assist other departmental craft workers, as assigned.
- Perform all duties required as Fire Alarm Response Team.
- Participate in OSHA/Safety programs within the hotel
- Assist as needed with the Hotel’s Emergency Evacuation Team
- Adhere to hotel safety standards
- Highly motivated self-starter.
- Must promote a cordial and caring attitude toward all other department heads.
- Perform other duties and handle projects as assigned by Hotel Manager or Senior Maintenance Engineer.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with hotel guests.
- Complete knowledge of Hotel operations and Department operating procedures
- Ability to use sound judgement and decision-making skills
- Applies critical thinking skills
- Knowledge and ability to read, interpret, properly identify, and effectively communicate information, including equipment manufacturer, year built, and the construction code.
- Ability to learn and navigate new technology
- Knowledge of incident and accident prevention involving boilers
- Ability to immediately report and document any violations, accidents, or failures involving boilers and pressure vessels.
- Effectively interact with department managers and be able to work well with all members of the Engineering Department and all other members of the Hotel Staff.
- Ability to proactively identify and alert appropriate management of boiler concerns before incidents occur, ranging from minor problems to catastrophic failures
- Experienced in all phases of mechanical/electrical systems.
- Must be able to exert a fast-paced ability to reach different areas and floors of the hotel on a timely basis, including the front desk, administrative offices, restaurant, banquet rooms, culinary prep spaces, storage areas, event spaces, and guest rooms.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfil relevant cleaning, repair, and maintenance tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
- Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
- Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Talking and hearing ability that occurs continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
- Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machine, keyboard, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed.
- Most be able to complete tasks that are performed indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10F) and kitchens (+110F), possibly for one hour or more.
- The worker may be subject to atmospheric conditions, one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
- The worker may be subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
- Operating Engineer with a First Class C boilers license or above.
