Opportunity OverviewA financially strong, privately owned company — recognized as a Top 3 provider within its niche in the state — is seeking a hands‑on Controller to lead accounting and financial operations.
This organization has built a reputation for operational excellence, consistent growth, and disciplined financial management. The Controller will play a critical leadership role, partnering directly with ownership to enhance reporting, strengthen controls, and support strategic decision‑making as the company continues to scale.
Key Responsibilities- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Deliver accurate, GAAP‑compliant financial statements and executive reporting packages.
- Provide analysis on margins, purchasing trends, commodity impacts, and operational performance.
- Present financial insights that support data‑driven decision‑making.
- Oversee the full accounting function, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Ensure accurate inventory valuation across metal grades, work‑in‑process, and finished goods.
- Maintain disciplined cost accounting practices tied to commodity flows.
- Optimize workflows within Quick Books while identifying opportunities for automation.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Partner with external CPA advisors on tax filings, year‑end reviews, and monthly financial reporting requests from lenders.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements.
- Monitor liquidity and proactively manage cash flow.
- Build cash forecasts aligned with purchasing cycles and pricing volatility.
- Implement prudent fiscal management with a goal of reducing operational expenses over the next year.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Work closely with operations leadership to improve financial visibility across facilities.
- Evaluate capital expenditures, including equipment, fleet, and yard expansions.
- Lead and develop the accounting staff (Team of
2) - Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Assess current financial infrastructure and recommend enhancements.
- Play a key role in any future ERP evaluation or implementation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Leadership experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager
- Proficiency in Quick Books
- Strong GAAP knowledge
- Advanced Excel skills
- CPA or CMA
- Background in inventory‑intensive or commodity‑driven businesses
