Diesel Bus Technician

Blue Island, IL

Shift: Monday - Friday, 1st Shift
Hours: To be set once the candidate accepts
Pay: $28-32 per hour

• Servicing of gasoline and diesel-powered buses, from basic maintenance and minor repairs to full vehicle service.
• Diagnose mechanical defects and carry out a preventive maintenance program.
• Major and minor overhaul of engines and transmissions.
• Service and maintain brakes, air compressors, fuel systems, ignitions, HVAC systems, and wheelchair lifts.
• Service and maintain vehicle air conditioning units.
• Inspect and repair school buses per DOT requirements.
• Keep records of time and materials used.

• Experience with medium-duty buses, International Truck/Bus preferred.
• Must have own set of tools.
• Knowledge of codes and laws related to pupil transportation (e.g., IDOT inspections). CDL Class B License with air brake endorsement preferred. A/C Certification.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective communication with internal and external customers.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a positive attitude while providing exemplary customer service.
• Ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner.

• Ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully, consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other standards, including meeting productivity standards.
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance as it is an essential function of the position.
• Ability to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
